First Church is a uniquely welcoming, progressive congregation with a 200-year history of performing God’s work in service of the City of Buffalo. We are compelled by our shared faith to foster a vibrant, inclusive hub of worship and community that ministers to the needs of everyone who walks through our doors with warmth, compassion, and humility.

What to Expect

Most of the year, Sunday worship takes place at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. During the summer months, from the last Sunday in June through the first Sunday of September, worship is held at 10 a.m. in the chapel.

Worship services are about one hour in length and include sacred organ music, scripture readings, a sermon, and various prayers. A printed bulletin is provided, and hymnals and Bibles are available in each pew. Communion is typically served the first Sunday of the month.

Following a brief sermon for children, kids leave worship with their teachers for Sunday school. (Classes are divided by age.) Nursery care for toddlers and infants can usually be arranged in advance by contacting the church office.

After each service, coffee hour is held in the Narthex. During coffee hour, congregants and friends are invited to mingle and exchange tidings, and deacons are available to answer questions.
